How close are we to AI replacing sales reps?

I asked a friend who runs a top AI consultancy. His answer?

Closer than most people think.

He said the only real gap right now is screen sharing. AI still struggles to run a live demo over Zoom with the same dexterity as a human.

But everything else? It’s already starting to look automated.

He told me the one big gap right now is Screen Sharing. AI can’t yet run a live demo over Zoom with the same dexterity as a human.

Then he rattled off what it already does:

  • Prospect: sniff out targets faster than LinkedIn Sales Nav.

  • Outreach: blast emails, calls, texts, and DMs...without complaining.

  • Qualify: ask the questions your reps skip, and actually log them in CRM

  • Pitch: deliver the overview, give the value prop, and answer questions.

  • Schedule: book the meeting without 47 back-and-forth emails.

  • Follow-up: send recaps, draft proposals, and keep poking until they reply

His point was simple: if AI already covers 90% of the sales motion, how long until it closes the last gap, screen sharing?

Do you agree with him… or do you think sales is safe? Would buyers, especially in SMB, interact with AI who can run the entire sales process end to end?
